Don’t Forget God

As we walk with God, we will see the hand of him move in our lives. Obedience does produce blessings. Blessings come in all shapes and sizes. Blessings can look like joy, peace, love, and purpose in life. It can also be tangible things like a job promotion, good health, getting pregnant, finding a spouse, securing a home, peace in your country.

Now do we serve God because he blesses? No, we serve him because he loves. But when we honor him, he honors us. It’s a spiritual principle that is true and it pleases God when we seek him.

In 2 Chronicles 26, we learn about King Uzziah. The Bible says that as long as long as he sought the Lord, God gave him success (v 5). Success in deed is what King Uzziah experienced. He gained victory over his enemies, he built up buildings and cities, he expanded his territory, he had thousands of men in his army. Everything was going well for King Uzziah. In fact, too well. The Bible says that “his fame spread as far as the border of Egypt, because he had become very powerful" (v 8).

But unfortunately, this season of power and fame came to an end. Why? All because of pride. "But after Uzziah became powerful, his pride led to his downfall. He was unfaithful to the Lord his God" (v 16).

No…. pride? Unfortunately, pride. It’s the ugly sin of all sin. It’s the root of all sin. It’s the reason Adam and Eve ate the fruit off the tree they were told not to eat. It’s the reason King Saul, came to his downfall. It’s the reason King Uzziah spiraled downward instead of maintaining his favor with God.

Why? All because he forgot God. He forgot who helped him. The Bible says in vs 7 and 15 – that “God helped him” and vs 15 “he was greatly helped”. The person who helped him was God.

If we are not careful in life, we can give credit where credit is not due.

We, just like King Uzziah, can behave in ways that are prideful. King Uzziah decided to burn the incense when this was reserved for priests and when he was confronted, he got angry. His story does not end well, he got sick and was left sick until his death. All because he forgot God.

Have we forgotten God? Have we been giving credit to ourselves when really God is the one who has been helping us?

Let us remember that the reason we have what we have is because of the hand of God. He’s the reason we are breathing. We have food on our table. We have a job. We have clothes. We have peace in our hearts and peace with others. Anything and everything we have is because of God!

Oh, how the sin of pride likes to lie to us and pat us on the back.

You are the reason you are success.

You are the reason you have fame.

You are the reason …..

Oh how we too can fall for the temptation that we are the reason we are blessed.

Today, the Lord wants you and I to remember him and give him the credit. Let us embrace a thankful attitude to God rather an attitude of pride.

What blessings in your life do you want to thank God for today?

Prayer: Dear God, thank you or my blessings in my life. I would not be where I am today without your love and your hand in my life. I bless your name because you have blessed me. I give you all credit and glory for what you are doing in my life. Remove any hint of pride in my life and confess and release it to you. In Jesus Name. Amen.
