The Power of Your Mouth

Do the words we say out of our mouth have any power? The answer is yes. According to God’s Word negative words bring negativity in our lives, but positive words bring life (Proverbs 18: 21). So how do you talk? Are you someone who talks with doubtful, unbelieving, complaining, grumbling, unforgiving, and fearful words? Or do you speak with encouraging, hopeful, kind, and faithful words?

Whenever we use our mouth for evil - negative results will follow. Michal spoke bitter words to her husband David and because of this she never had any children (2 Samuel 6). Ananias and Sapphira used lying words and died (Acts 5). The Israelites used complaining words about the promised land and didn’t get to see it (Numbers 14). Miriam and Aaron used criticizing words against Moses their brother and Miriam got leprosy (Numbers 12). Zechariah used doubting words when the angel told him that he would have a son and as a result he had to be silent until the baby was born (Luke 1). Word of death bring problems, conflict, and negative consequences.

However, words of life bring power. Encouraging words benefit the listener (Ephesians 4: 29). Faith words bring breakthroughs like the women who bled for 12 years and said to herself “If only I could touch the hem of his garment I will be whole” (Matthew (9: 21). Praise and thanksgiving words gives you victory over your battles. Paul and Silas were in jail and they sang and praised God as a result the prison foundation shook (Acts 16). Prophetic word brings hope like the promised Messiah Jesus Christ who was prophesied would come and bring salvation to the world by the prophet Isaiah (Isaiah 53).

So how do you talk? Do you use words of death or words of life? God is calling us to use words of life.
